Vondelpark

When in Amsterdam visiting the Vondelpark is a must do. It is the most famous park in the city and is founded in 1865. It has an area of 47 hectares (470,000 m2) and it has about 10 million visitors per year. The park attracts a wide audience and appeals to many young people, most of the visitors come here to meet, to sports, to recreate and to relax. Often music bands and dance groups practice in the park which contributes to the cozy atmosphere. The park was designed to feel like an English style landscape, to give an ambiance as if you are surrounded by nature in a fairly rural area. At the entrance of the park stands the statue of De Stedemaagd, the personification of the city, and in the park you will find a variety of artworks, sculptures, a music chapel and the statue of Joost van den Vondel. Barbecuing is only allowed on designated places.
