A travel guide to the best places to visit

Verona

The romantic city of Verona is a popular tourist destination and can be found in North Italy near Milan and halfway towards Venice. The city center has been awarded as an UNESCO World Heritage Site since the year 2000. Verona has after Rome the most constructions from the ancient Roman Empire. And because the city center is compact are the distances between the constructions walkable.

Over the Adige river that crosses the city are several beautiful bridges, like the Ponte Pietra and the Ponte di Castelvecchio (or Ponte Scaligero) that is built in 1356. The city also has two beautiful castles, called Castelvecchio and Castel San Pietro. Another beloved attraction of Verona is the house of Juliet (casa di Giulietta), which is famous because of Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet. The house includes of course the well-known balcony and also has a museum in it.

But the main attraction is probably the Arena, which is an ancient amphitheatre built by the Romans and is nowadays used as a great opera venue. During the summer opera festival are many notable opera singers and prominent opera performances.

If you prefer shopping above culture you should visit Via Mazzini. This street is not only home to popular shops like Zara and H&M, but also some high-end stores from Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton and Bvlgari.
